Meet The Team

Gerry - Managing Director

Gerry has been with IBT since 2018 and brings over 37 years of experience in the builders’ merchant industry. Throughout his career, he’s worked his way through nearly every role — from trade counter and sales office assistant to branch manager, key account manager, and sales manager for Scotland. A firm believer that excellent customer service is the cornerstone of success, Gerry ensures that the customer is always at the heart of everything IBT does.

Outside of work, Gerry enjoys spending time with his family — and you’ll often find him socialising with the team or customers down at the pub. A passionate golf fan, he loves spending time on the course whenever he can. Gerry and his wife Dianne have three children, and their youngest has recently followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the builders’ merchant industry.

Alan - General Director

Alan has been with IBT since its very beginning in 2002. Over the years, he’s taken on a wide range of roles — from working in the yard and on the trade counter to supervising teams and managing day-to-day operations. With a background as a qualified engineer in timber machinery, Alan truly is the timber man! His extensive experience in the builders’ merchant industry has given him a deep understanding of timber and operations, and he enjoys sharing that knowledge with both the team and customers.

Outside of work, Alan is happiest in the great outdoors. He and his family recently moved to a home surrounded by forest — the perfect spot for someone who loves nature, walking, and fishing. When he’s not exploring the woods, Alan enjoys a fine malt whisky and spending quality time with his wife Lisa and their two children, Liam and Katy. Following in their dad’s footsteps, Liam has also begun a career in the builders’ merchant industry.

Keith – Stock Manager

Keith joined IBT in 2007, initially running and operating the yard before being promoted to Stock Manager in 2017. Since then, he’s taken charge of all aspects of stock management within the company, making a huge impact on product availability and efficiency. With his hands-on approach, Keith remains closely involved in transport, the mechanical fleet, and the day-to-day operations of the branch — from stock ordering to liaising with suppliers. He’s a real asset to the IBT team.

Outside of work, Keith is a big sports fan — though he’ll admit he’s not always lucky when it comes to football or betting! A passionate golfer, he often hits the fairways alongside Gerry and proudly claims to have the longest drive at his local West Lothian golf club. When he’s not on the course, Keith enjoys spending time at the pub with his partner Senga, his stepchildren, and step grandkids.

Craig – Contract Sales Manager

Craig began his career in the builders’ merchant industry nearly 20 years ago, starting out with a local merchant during his school holidays — and he’s never looked back since. With his father spending his entire career in the same industry, Craig says it was inevitable he’d follow in his footsteps. Specialising in heavyside and landscaping products, Craig has continued to broaden his material knowledge at IBT, particularly in the timber sector. Friendly, outgoing, and dedicated, he takes pride in building strong relationships with both customers and suppliers.

Outside of work, Craig is a passionate football fan who enjoys the thrill of a good match (and the occasional bet or two!). He loves spending time with friends, watching his team, and enjoying a well-earned drink. Craig is married to Amy and a proud dad to two young boys, Jackson and Jude, who never fail to make him smile.

Weronika – Trade Counter & Marketing Manager

Weronika joined IBT in 2021 after completing her HNC in Art & Design. Initially looking for a part-time role, she started as a Shop Assistant, helping with stock, merchandising, and maintaining the shop’s appearance. Her strong organisational skills and proactive attitude quickly caught attention, and before long she moved into the office as a Trade Counter Assistant.

Combining her creative background with her growing industry knowledge, Weronika began developing content for IBT’s social media channels — a move that naturally led her into marketing. After just two and a half years, she now manages both the Trade Counter and IBT’s marketing operations. From brand awareness and digital campaigns to event planning, content creation, and advertising. Nominated Top 100 Young Achiever by BMF Federation ! - Weronika plays a key role in shaping how IBT connects with its customers.

Outside of work, Weronika enjoys digital design and creative projects. She’s also studying towards a PDA in ESOL, with the goal of helping migrants settle in Scotland by teaching them English and supporting their integration into the community.

Gary – Contract Sales Assistant

Gary became part of the IBT team in October 2018, bringing with him over 17 years of experience in the plumbing and heating industry. Before joining IBT, he spent more than 16 years at Plumb Center, mastering every aspect of the trade, followed by a year as a buyer with a local plumbing and heating company — giving him a great perspective on both sides of the counter. A Carronshore local, Gary started out on IBT’s Trade Counter before moving into the Contract Sales Office, where he’s expanded his knowledge to include the building side of the business. His strong organisational skills, solid work ethic, and commitment to great service make him an invaluable member of the team.

Outside of work, Gary’s a true people person. He enjoys socialising with his wife Lauren, family, and friends, cheering (and sometimes suffering) through Falkirk FC games, and having a pint or two at his favourite local spots. He’s also known to enjoy the occasional flutter — and let’s just say, what happens on the Christmas nights out definitely stays on tour!

Stevie – Contract Sales Assistant

Stevie joined IBT in May 2021, bringing with him extensive experience from both internal and external roles across various merchants. A Grangemouth local, Stevie is delighted to finally be working in his hometown after many years in the industry.

Known for his strong sales skills and deep knowledge of timber, Stevie is fiercely competitive and never likes losing an order. His expertise and drive make him an invaluable asset to the team and a key contributor to IBT’s continued growth and success.

Outside of work, Stevie enjoys cycling, playing golf, and walking his Collie Doodle, Lucas, around Falkirk and Grangemouth. He’s a passionate sports fan who loves watching and debating football and golf — and he proudly claims to be the best darts player at IBT (a title that’s sure to be tested at the next team outing!).

Jim – Trade Counter Sales Assistant

Jim joined IBT in April 2018, bringing with him over 35 years of experience in the builders’ merchant industry. Before joining the team, he spent seven years with a contract insulation company and has worked in a variety of roles across both national and independent merchants, giving him a wealth of product knowledge and industry insight.

At IBT, Jim works on the Trade Counter, where his broad experience and approachable nature make him a go-to person for customers and colleagues alike. His extensive knowledge across a wide range of building materials ensures customers always get the right advice and support.

Outside of work, Jim is a passionate runner and has completed nearly 20 marathons over the past decade alongside his wife, Jacqueline. His favourite event is the London Marathon — thanks to its incredible atmosphere and crowd support. When he’s not running, Jim enjoys spending quality time with his three children, Cameron, Caitlin, and Joshua.

Max – Trade Counter Sales Assistant

Max joined IBT in 2023, just before his 18th birthday, starting out as a Yard Operative. During his time in the yard, he completed an apprenticeship in Trade Supply, gaining valuable hands-on experience in product knowledge, handling, and customer service. After more than a year of learning the ropes and serving both trade and public customers, Max moved into the office to take on a new challenge at the Trade Counter, where he now supports the day-to-day operations. It’s a change from life in the yard, but he’s adapted quickly and continues to thrive.

Following in the footsteps of his dad, Gerry, IBT’s Managing Director, Max is building his own career in the builders’ merchant industry and proving to be a great asset to the team.

Outside of work, Max is a talented bass guitarist and a member of a local band called DEMO, performing at gigs around the area. When he’s not playing music, he enjoys spending time with friends and colleagues — often catching up over a pint at the pub, or playing golf.

Abigail – Transport & Yard Administrator

Abigail joined IBT in 2023 and quickly became an essential part of the transport and yard team. With a diverse background spanning several industries — including golf clubs, sales, and hospitality — she brings a wealth of transferable skills, strong communication, and great organisation to her role.

As the only woman in IBT’s transport and yard department, Abigail has truly made her mark. Since joining, she’s helped improve communication between the office and the yard, streamlined transport operations, and brought a positive, can-do attitude that keeps everything running smoothly.

Outside of work, Abigail dedicates most of her time to her beloved horse, Captain. Whether she’s caring for him in the stables, walking him through the fields, or spending quiet moments outdoors, her passion for animals and the countryside shines through.

Claire – Accounts Department

Claire joined IBT in 2024, bringing valuable experience from her previous work in the builders’ merchant industry. After taking time out to raise her two young boys, she returned to the financial side of the business and now keeps IBT’s accounts running smoothly and efficiently.

Always smiling and ready to help, Claire is known for her positive attitude and approachable nature — a real asset to both the team and customers alike.

Outside of work, Claire loves spending quality time with her children and, when she gets the chance, enjoys a well-earned glass (or two!) of wine with friends.

Kevin - Transport & Yard Assistant Manager

Kevin joined IBT in December 2025 following the unfortunate closure of a local timber branch. With an impressive 39 years of experience in the builders’ merchant industry, Kevin began his career as a yard assistant in a timber yard, progressing to yard supervisor and then into a range of managerial roles.

Outside of work, Kevin enjoys fly fishing, watching football, and taking long walks with his dog. We’re delighted to have Kevin as part of the IBT team — his experience, dedication, and knowledge have already made him an invaluable part of our operations.

Chris Middleton – Yard Supervisor

Chris has spent the majority of his career working within the builders’ merchant industry, building strong knowledge across a wide range of materials and yard operations. His hands-on experience and practical understanding play a vital role in ensuring our yard runs efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.

Since joining IBT, Chris has been a crucial member of the team, consistently demonstrating commitment, reliability, and a strong work ethic. His ability to monitor operations and progress within his role led to his promotion to Yard Supervisor in October 2025 - a well-deserved step that reflects his dedication and leadership.

Known for his approachable nature and good sense of humour, Chris is well respected by both colleagues and customers and is always willing to share his knowledge and support the team.
